Hello! This is RabbiTravel from Japan!!
During my recent trip to Shirahama, I made sure to visit the awe-inspiring Senjojiki. In this post, I’m excited to share with you the stunning views of this natural wonder through my photos.
What is Senjojiki?

Senjojiki is a breathtaking series of layered massive rock slabs, sculpted over countless years by the relentless pounding of the sea. Even today, the crashing waves continue to strike the rocks, evoking a deep sense of nature’s grand and timeless power. Its designation as a National Scenic Beauty officially recognizes its extraordinary allure. If you ever find yourself in Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, a visit to Senjojiki is an absolute must!
What is a Scenic Spot (Meishō: 名勝)?
According to the Cultural Properties Protection Act, scenic spots are defined as those gardens, bridges, gorges, seashores, mountains, and other locations that hold exceptional artistic or aesthetic value for our country. These sites—whether created by human ingenuity or formed naturally—serve as monuments that celebrate the exquisite beauty of our land. Often, their outstanding charm leads to multiple designations, such as historic sites or natural monuments. Ultimately, scenic spots are a legacy of the feelings and memories that the people of Japan have woven into their local landscapes.
